Department of Economics
Whether you are already committed to studying economics, are still thinking about it, or are just considering selecting some of the economic courses as part of your undergraduate or graduate education at the University of Split, these web pages are for you.
Economic problems center around the utilization of limited resources to provide goods and services to the society as a whole. As a social science, economics serves people as it helps them make their economic decisions. Economists study how business and personal decisions are made under conditions of uncertainty and incomplete information. A strong grounding in both theoretical and applied aspects of economics allows students to use their knowledge to understand economic behavior and at the same time provides a basis for evaluating economic policy.
The courses taught at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate study by the Department are designed to acquaint students with the economic aspects of modern society, to familiarize them with techniques for the analysis of contemporary economic problems, and to develop in them an ability to make decisions regarding public policy. Economists are employed by banks and other financial institutions, industrial corporations, consulting firms, international organizations, and government agencies at all levels, as well as by educational institutions and universities. Graduate program adds rigorous theoretical and analytical frame and prepares students for academic, business career or the one in the public sector. The Ph.D. is usually required for academic careers and for higher level positions in economic agencies of the government.
