VENUE

The Eighth International Conference on
"Challenges of Europe: Financial Crisis and Climate Change" will be held in
Bol, island of Brac, one of the most famous seaside resorts in Croatia.

Brac is the largest island in southern part of croatian coast with an area of 394,6 km2.
There are about twenty towns on the island today and the town Bol is the most famous among them.

Bol is in many ways a very special town. It is the first and the oldest little island town on the coast. It didn't take the usual position like other coastal towns in the amphitheatrically slopes of the protected bays, but it stands alone and separated on the southern, open part of the island, with the beaches connected like necklace of pearls. Above Bol is the mountain range of Bolska Kruna (Bol Crown), the Illyrian hill-fort Kostilo and Vidova Gora (778 m), the highest peak of the Adriatic islands.

The name Bol comes from the latin word vallum, which means "entrenchment", "land fortress wall", "fortified town". Latin word vallum has the same meaning like the old Croatian word coast (="entrenchment", "embankment"). The name is probably a mixture of the roman vallum and Slavic "obala".

Bol is mentioned for the first time as a locality in 1184 in a document called "Povaljska listina" made in the edifice called The Bishop's palace (Dominican convent). As a settlement Bol is mentioned for the first time on October 10, 1475, in a donation with which the prince Zachary donates the peninsula of Glavica to the Dominicans.

Bol is famous for its beautiful beaches made of sand-like white pebbles.

Zlatni rāt is considered the most beautiful beach of the Adriatic. It stretches out its white tongue almost half a kilometre towards the neighbouring island Hvar, and its cape is moved by the winds from one side to another. The centennial pine trees are impressed on the trails and ways among the houses and skirting the beaches.

Conference venue will be in the Bluesun Grand hotel Elaphusa****.

The hotel has been reconstructed a year ago. The Conference center of the Bluesun Hotel Elaphusa includes 5 halls in total.
